Funny that people were so offended about Lane Kiffin lying about his vote - his vote wasn't even that far off from what the AP or other coaches thought (at the time) - and he had to give up the vote, but not you have coaches essentially cheating, which is far far worse.
Who wouldn't have seen it coming? It was obvious in 2004 that there were conflicts of interest and it's obvious now
It isn't just a conflict of interest, but coaches have no idea how to rate teams other than the ones they play. That means, even if you toss out coaches with no ethics, all votes in the coaches' poll come from either coaches who don't have a clue about teams other than the ones they play, or flunkies of coaches who are still probably less qualified than most people on this board to figure out how to rank FBS teams across the nation.
The coaches' poll has always been a joke, it has been worse since it became a big element of the BCS, because a lot of coaches have decided it is OK to throw honesty out the window in their polls, and the only good news is that 2 years from now, its influence will be greatly diminished.
