Anyone else miss Bob Gregory? - 11-03-2011, 04:58 PM

Our offense and QB issues are squarely on JT. But I wish we still had Bob Gregory on the other side of the ball. His defenses seemed more prepared for the varied styles of play in the PAC10 (Now 12). Fewer embarrassing blowouts, although any defense is in trouble when the QB is wracking up 3-4 interceptions.

I don't. Even though I think CP should be booted.

We're first in the conference in passing defense and third in total defense. Imagine what our numbers would look like if our offense held onto the ball more. The defense isn't consistent, but I don't for a second pine for the Gregory days. Remember that game against Oregon State in 2009? Their QB had however much time he needed on every pass plus about 2 seconds, just to make sure he didn't have to hurry his throws. Haven't seen anything that bad from Clancy's defense.

Gregory and Pendergast are both fine DCs.

The offense has let them down year after year after year.

BG's defenses didn't perform any better than CP's, and I think BG for the most part had more developed talent (at least compared to this year). We are really green on D this year, at CB, at the OLB positions, at lineman, etc.

You have a really short memory if you don't remember 2009.

Could not stand Gregory's bend but break defense but compared with Clancy we would be better off. Again part of a HC attributes is to identify and attract above average assistants. My grade:C

If our offense could sustain drives, our defense would probably be number one in the Pac-12.

How many times have we seen our D have a huge first half, only to finally give in after a massive amount of 3 and outs, or an interception (or four...but who's counting?).

Minus a couple areas, our Defense has comported themselves quite well me thinks. Certainly not the side of the ball losing us games.

Problem with Gregory's schemes is that it requires a very good pass rusher to be effective.

The years when we had Riddle, Follett, we had very good defenses. Without that playmaker pass rusher, the defense sucked.

This. Gregory's D was infuriating to watch at times but one would be hard-pressed to pin our failures on the BBDB. Pendergast is more fun to watch, but it's all moot if the offense doesn't hold up its end of the bargain.
