The CalBears.com site has the story of Gottlieb's hiring.

Bluescriptcal Congratulations to Lindsay Gottlieb! - 04-25-2011, 03:36 PM

She did a commendable job at my alma-mater, UCSB (especially this year).
UCSB coaching staff: http://ucsbgauchos.cstv.com/sports/w...t.html#coaches
I would think that her friend, Kelly Barsky, would come along with her. Cal should have two openings with Morrison & Hoover gone. Charmin Smith remains from the existing staff? I hope so...

Here's UCSB's classy announcement:

To be honest, I was also impressed with the other finalist, the male coach from Bowling Green. I would have been satisfied with either hire by the AD.

Obviously-it will be a much smoother transition for Gottlieb! GO BEARS!

This tweet from Chris Roemer (who occasionally writes for NorCalPreps) dated 4/20 seems to indicate that DeNesha Stallworth's search for another school is still in full swing. After crossing so many thresholds, it would be hard to see her now saying "never mind". Too bad, because as a post coach, Lindsay would have given her the tools and moves to avoid a repeat of all the frustration of the last two seasons.
CAL transfer Denesha Stallworth came back from U KY (Kentucky) and will visit LSU next and will have a decision following....

Wayne saw more UCSB games this year than i did.

i think his discussion of the offensive weaknesses is spot-on. this is the area that must improve in the hiring of assistant coaches IMHO or we will see more of same.

right now, i am going to look at the glass half full. until i see otherwise i will assume that Coach Gottlieb realizes that the *Boyle offense* also has to GO. she is a smart cookie.

time to usher in a new system!

congrats!

interesting. Nikki Caldwell is not wasting any time. LSU wasn't even on Stallworth's radar in early April. at least her tweetland radar.

CONGRATS COACH GOTTLIEB!!!!

lol....obviously i have my concerns. but i do still think a change will be good. and with charmin presumably staying, i expect our 2012 recruiting will not suffer in the way you expect for a new coach

Ok with This Hire BUT - 04-25-2011, 07:25 PM

will feel much better when it's announced that Charmin is staying, the current players and recruits are staying and LG hires an assistant who knows how to put an offense together.

Does anyone know if DeNesha plans to finish the semester at Cal? I hope she does, and I wish her well wherever she lands.

I think her presence would be an enormous help.

Especially an offense which gets the most from our talent and depth on the perimeter.

The offense - 04-26-2011, 08:08 AM

Agree the Boyle offense was ineffective. Why not walk down the hall and get some ideas from Monty? My understanding is that this kind of communication never happened under Boyle.

Monty is a coaching genius. His teams at Montana, Furd and Cal have always overachieved. OTH, Cal WBB has underachieved with superior talent. The big problem being offense, particularly after Gottlieb left. If Joanne was concerned with improvement, as every coach preaches to their players, she had a Hall-of-Fame coach in the building. Maybe she did reach out. However, there is no evidence of that happening. That would be Boyle's loss at this point. I know that Monty and JT have shared ideas, and they aren't even in the same sport!

Monty, a hall of fame coach, admits he gets ideas from the Cal swim coach. Gottlieb strikes me as much more open to interface with other coaches than Boyle. Boyle seemed aloof.
