"bizarre" is certainly one way to put it. One might have called subjecting kids to such advertising "shocking," "inappropriate," or even "wrong" not too long ago. As decency standards change, so does the generally accepted idea of appropriate advertising for prime time/family hour television. If by "bizarre" you mean confused and inconsistent, then I agree.

I keep the sound off during the commercials and most of the game. I will occasionally turn the sound on if a penalty is being explained but that is the rare exception. The kids and I enjoy the game just as much and pay no attention to the other garbage. Having the sound off makes it easy.

I totally understand why you may not want your child exposed to questions about sex at a young age. But why sex is singularly reviled while death and killing are given a pass has continually eluded me.

if you choose to let your kids watch mainstream-anything TV, you are going to find all sorts of mental pollution which is what commercial TV sells..I have my own opinion on that..but in your case, be sure to monitor everything your kid watches or hears on the computer, cell phone, etc if that's the kind of protection you are looking for..editing is alot easier, and maybe "fairer" than censoring - your opinion counts alot with your kids, along with what you model in your life...amen and end..

I'm an ER doctor and luckily no one has ever come in with this Viagra-related calamity. I suppose they choose to spend their $100 co-pay on services that I am unable or unwilling to provide.

If your kids are too young to know they probably won't understand. The commercial can be about a headache for all they'll know. They may question why the couple are reclining in side-by-side bathtubs, but you can tell them that they don't have a swimming pool in their yard.
