I thought we would have hit better against UCLA's pitcher, Jessica Hall..who had a era of 2.74 but we prevailed. Wonder if Ally Carda will pitch tomorrow for the bruins. She is struggling too with a 3.32 era. Lets hope we get our hitting stroke back.

Thank goodness for Cal's elite pitching and excellent defense. Jo Henderson was the first pitcher this season to shutout UCLA. The Bruins possess the top offense in the conference.

The Bear's hitting has really dropped off but it has for every team in Pac Nine play...Over the last three league weekends, Arizona, Oregon & now UCLA have slowed Cal's run production markedly especially in games 1 & 2 of the respective weekend series.

What's up with Britt Vonk? She was used as a pinch runner late today and had missed the previous six consecutive games. Cal could use her offense (OB%) at the top of the order. Jamia Reid & Breana Kostreba are really struggling to get hits. Actually the whole team is in a collective slump. Arizona pitchers tossed two & three hitters to open up in Berkeley. Oregon's Jessica Moore shutout Cal 1-0 last weekend. Today, UCLA's mediocore "ace", soph southpaw Jessica Hall, struckout eleven Bears in six innings, allowing only three hits and two earned runs. ASU crushed this same pitcher in the desert in back-to-back 9-1 blowouts. The Sun Devils scored 9 & 7 earned runs respectively against her in those mercy rule victories.

A clutch two-run single by Ashley Decker was the difference this afternoon.
GO BEARS!

Britt Vonk has broken hand/fingers. Hopefully, she'll be available to hit in a couple of weeks.

Good explanation, but when you get the games via game tracker or tweets, you really don't get the details of injuries. Especially when reporting of same is done so carefully. So what is a reasonable person to assume?

Agree with S71, hitting is not good by any measure----J. Reid, B. Kostreba, C. Cordes have somewhat disappeared of late. Now that I have noted that, all will change to prove me wrong....Go Bears, tomorrow and Sunday....

Whoa--that's a serious shocker. (Not ASU winning, but winning in 5.) What's happening to Washington this season?

Thanks for the info on Britt's injury. I had been wondering about her absence, too, but I thought maybe I just missed an announcement or something. Hopefully she will heal well and be able to get in there soon! She's still a vocal bench presence, and hopefully the pinch-running will keep her legs fresh for her return.

Inglesby did not pitch in this one. ASU is not a team you're likely to beat with back-up pitching. That said, the Huskies have not played to the level I expected to see in any phase of the game.

Vonk was in uniform at the game today, but her hand is in a cast.
