I just noticed Kaufman's name surface on Coaching Search's ticker along with Sanders. Looking at his history, Kaufman actually seems pretty accomplished and if they brought in Sanders as db coach, probably helps with the SoCal recruiting. Interesting that Tubberville chose recruiting over results for his DC.
Cal: Among the coaches on the Sonny Dykes' short list are former Cincinnati defensive coordinator Art Kaufman and former Nebraska defensive backs coach Marvin Sanders, a source tells CoachingSearch. Sanders is currently the head coach at Loyola HS in Los Angeles
Wow...a lot of smoke coming from Strawberry Canyon these days. Initially liked the Dykes hire, but pretty worried now. Pretty obvious changing from basically a pro style offense to the TFS and a 3-4 to a 4-3 has shaken Cal football to the core.
Looks like Sandy didn't think through all the implications these changes would have on the program. Knew we needed a change, but maybe far too drastic.
Jim: for some unknown reason I have been cut off from The BearInsider for about one week. I am an annual subscriber and have been renewed. I have written to the Mods 3 times inquiring, but have not had the courtesy of a response. Can you please inquire for me?
In a season of disappointment, and other years as well, it would be interesting to read about the new faces--the quality of their play, the level they could reach (star, starter, competent backup). It would also give participants in the bearinsider boards more hope. Here are some off the top of my head I"m curious about. Several may be redshirting but there might be reports from the scout team. What I'm asking can certainly be done w/o denigrating players.
Jacobi Hunter--Is he going to be really good since he's playing as a true frosh.
Cedric Dozier--I know he was praised after Arizona, but I'd like to hear more.
Steve Moore and Chris Borrayo--are they the basis of a future solid OL
MB- there is a late blooming, senior running back at The Colony High north of DFW named Bryan Hammond. He is just destroying people each week. Listed at 5' 11", 200 - he has put on weight since last year but I think he looks more like 190. Issue is speed, listed 4.6. What intrigues me is the kid has more fight in him than most anyone I have seen in recent years. There is an 8 minute you tube video of his junior year - check out run against team in black about 2 mins into it and you will see what I mean. Anyway, here is deal, I know a guy whose wife taught this kid multiple years - elementary school and they have kept up with him since - I am told great kid, great student. They asked me if I would contact people I know at Abilene Christian about him which I will do ( and the Citadel as well) because that is where I think he can play but thought I would at least mention him in case staff wants to check him out. Thanks Brad ( Slotright 20)
MB ... wanted to check with you first to see if this link to Dykes press conference video http://www.bearswithfangs.com/ is appropriate.
There's a subscribe button on the site but it just looks like it allows one to get content and is not a paid subscription.
Thanks (and thanks for BI and all your informative posts).
